Longeuil to Host 2017 Canadian Boccia Championships

Ottawa, ON (June 5, 2016) – Boccia Canada is pleased to announce that the Association Québécoise de Sports pour Paralytiques Cérébraux (AQSPC) has been selected to host the 2017 Canadian Boccia Championships in Longueuil, Québec from March 16-19, 2017.

It marks a move back east for the Championships, which were last hosted in Surrey, British Columbia in 2016.

AQSPC Executive Director José Malo is ready to welcome the tournament to Québec, “It is with boundless pride that we announce the Province of Québec will be hosting the 2017 Canadian Boccia Championships next March. For a few years now, determined Québec athletes along with the support of our sports administrators have made huge strides in advancing the cause of boccia in the Canadian sports landscape. With great enthusiasm we will be preparing to host our Provincial counterparts and all the wonderful athletes of our unique sport from across the country.”

The Championships will be hosted at the Centre sportif du CEGEP Edouard Montpetit in Longueuil, a venue with a strong history of event hosting. Athletes from across Canada are expected to attend the Championships, where they will have the opportunity to test their skills and earn ranking points towards national team selection.

“We are extremely pleased to bring the 2017 Canadian Boccia Championships back to the Province of Québec and partner with the AQSPC, a passionate leader in grassroots boccia participation and the development of world class talent for our sport” states Executive Director of Boccia Canada, Peter Leyser.

The Championships will also mark the introduction of the new Canadian Boccia Championships brand. In keeping with the launch of the Boccia Canada brand in March 2016, the Championships brand includes a logo that communicates the very best of sporting tradition from a decidedly modern perspective. Taken as a whole, the new logo embodies the strength and focus that is so characteristic of the sport of boccia and the talented athletes who compete in this exceptional game. It emulates the key attributes of the Boccia Canada brand – representing the character of our Canadian athletes who always “take the shot” in those defining moments.

Up to date competition information will be available at www.bocciacanada.ca.
