Ottawa, ON (October 23, 2020) – With the cancellation of the 2020 Canadian Boccia Championships due to COVID-19, Boccia Canada is pleased to announce a new and exciting initiative that provides the boccia community with a fun and entertaining event to participate in. The 2020 Canadian Eboccia Open is a virtual event that will take place from November 24th – December 6th. It is open to all athletes across Canada and also includes a category for family and friends.

The Canadian Eboccia Open will include virtual opening and closing ceremonies and three competitive events; head to head competition using the Boccia Battle app, a Skills Challenge and a Trivia Challenge. Participants can register for as many events as they wish.

In the head to head competition, participants will compete on their Android tablet or iPhone/iPad using the Boccia Battle App. The app simulates a regular boccia game and follows BISFed rules. Players will play a regular match that includes four ends and six balls each per end. Matches will be screen recorded and game videos will be posted so fans and friends can follow the action from start to finish through Boccia Canada’s YouTube channel. Canadian Eboccia Open results will not count towards national athlete rankings.

National team BC3 athlete Marylou Martineau has already been using the app in her spare time: “I have improved my game in terms of placements, movements, ricochets, and pushes. I love the app because it makes me feel like I’m competing. Thanks to my iPad I can play the game on my own.”

In the Skills Challenge, participants can compete in the Development or High Performance category to complete a series of skill challenges.

The Trivia Challenge will allow participants to test their boccia knowledge against each other in a live event.

The 2020 Canadian Eboccia Open will culminate with the closing ceremony on Sunday, December 6th.
