Ontario’s Carter Plumb looks to build on his sixth place finish at the 2023 World Youth Championships

Ottawa, ON (March 21, 2025) – Boccia Canada is proud to announce the athletes and staff who will represent Canada at the Curitiba World Boccia Youth Championships in Brazil. Competing on the international stage will be Andrew Woodrow (St. John’s, NL), Carter Plumb (Brampton, ON), and Joe Philpott (St. John’s, NL), led by Boccia Canada’s High-Performance Director, Mario Delisle, and coach Eileen Bartlett.

This is the most prestigious Youth boccia event, showcasing the world’s top young talent. It’s the first international competition for Woodrow and Philpott. Plumb previously competed at the 2023 World Youth Championships, placing 6th. This marks the first time he will represent Canada since being named to the Boccia Canada Espoir team. Boccia Canada Head Coach César Nicolai recently traveled to Philpott and Woodrow’s hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland to help them prepare for their international debut.

All three athletes are new additions to the Espoir team this year. Their selection reflects their dedication and rapid development in the sport, as well as Boccia Canada’s commitment to fostering emerging talent through its long-term athlete development strategy. There will be a total of six countries and 29 athletes in Curitiba. All eyes will be on the emerging talent pool as coaches begin looking ahead to the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

« The Curitiba World Boccia Youth Championships is a key opportunity for our young athletes to gain valuable experience against top-tier competition, » said Mario Delisle. « This event is a crucial stepping stone in our long-term development strategy, and we are eager to see our young team rise to the occasion. »

Stay tuned for updates as they compete in Curitiba and continue their journey internationally. More details around the Team and Pair competition will be determined after the Technical Meeting and announced on Boccia Canada’s socials here.
