Classifier Training Program
Classifier Pathway
Classifiers are responsible for reviewing athletes prior to their first competition experience. Classifiers determine which classification group the athlete is eligible to compete in, in accordance with the Boccia Canada Classification Manual. There are two types of classifier roles, each requiring a different background, although all classifiers complete the same training.
Medical Classifier
Medical Doctor
An individual who has experience in dealing with people with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke or physical impairments as defined in the Classification profiles of the International Boccia Federation rules. Ideally these individuals are physicians with a specialty in Rehabilitation or Neurology.
Physiotherapist or related discipline
An individual trained to work with individuals with clinical manifestations of cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke and other impairments.
Technical Classifier
An individual with a strong working knowledge of Boccia or who have an extensive coaching background or who have a degree in physical education, biomechanics or kinesiology.
Want to become a classifier?
Boccia Canada provides training for those interested in becoming classifiers. To become a classifier, an individual will follow the pathway linked above. Usually this is an individual who is classifying in his or her province and wishes to advance in further classifications.
To learn more about becoming an official and to learn about what resources and training are available, contact your provincial boccia partner or [email protected].
