Take the Shot
How did Canada’s current boccia stars reach the podium? They tried the sport. They were encouraged to #TaketheShot. You can too!
What is it?
Take the Shot is a program that was first delivered in the lead up to the 2021 Tokyo Summer Paralympic Game to spread awareness of boccia across Canada and increase participation in the sport. It included try it events, downloadable activation kits and presentations from athlete ambassadors. Three years later, ahead of the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, we delivered “Take the Shot (Paris Edition)”.
Thanks to support from the Community Sport for All Initiative from the Government of Canada, we’re excited to be delivering an expanded Take the Shot program.
What does Take the Shot include?
To increase opportunities for boccia participation across the country, there are three different Take the Shot grants available: – Try-It Event, Try-It School, and Club Support.

Try-It Event Grants
Who can apply?
Municipalities, communities, and/or clubs.
What is it for?
Grants will be distributed to municipalities, communities, and/or clubs to host boccia try it events, either as standalone or in conjunction with other events. A try it event includes an opportunity for participants to meet a supportive boccia leader, get introduced to boccia equipment and try out the game.
Try-It School Grants
Who can apply?
Community organizations and/or clubs
What is it for?
These grants support community organizations to partner with a school to bring in a community boccia leader to facilitate a series of in-person classroom sessions using curriculum resources and host an inter- or intra-school boccia competition. The goal is to introduce Boccia to students in a developmentally appropriate way to help prepare them to join a community program.
Club Support Grants
Who can apply?
New/existing community boccia clubs and/or programs
What is it for?
These grants will be distributed to new community boccia clubs and programs for start up support for equipment, gym rental, coach education and other expenses related to a new program. Existing boccia clubs and programs will be supported in hosting local or regional skill development camps or competitions, supporting coach/referee education, and other development activities.
