Bussière, Dispaltro and McLeod advance at BISFed World Open in Santiago de Cali, Colombia

Santiago de Cali, Colombia (November 2, 2015) – Three Canadians rolled their way to the final day of individual competition at the BISFed World Open in Santiago de Cali, Colombia: BC2 Tammy McLeod (London, ON), flag bearer for the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games BC4 Marco Dispaltro (Montréal, QC) and silver medallist in individual play at Toronto 2015, BC3 Eric Bussière (Montréal, QC).

McLeod went head to head with Fernando Ferreira of Portugal, sliding into a win with a score of (6-4). Despite a (4-2) loss against Ivan Frolov of Russia, Dispaltro will advance out of his pool. Of her match, McLeod says, “I went into the game feeling calm and I played a good game. He challenged me but I kept focus and owned my spot in last end to get the win.”

Bussière describes the intensity of his match against Aleksander Legostaev of Russia by saying, “It was a difficult beginning with my opponent taking three points in the first end. I came back strong with a six points in the second. He retaliated with another three in the third. We went into the final end tied (6-6). The tension was high, just one point was needed to take the win. I managed to set up one point. My opponent had two balls left, he saw a small opening to the jack. His first throw failed, I was already planning my next move mentally were his second to succeed. He was almost out of time, I felt his stress. He played his next ball … and he missed.”

Head coach Mario Delisle says “I am disappointed with some performances here in Cali in individual play, the execution was lacking for some athletes. We need to play better, and with more confidence. Three athletes are moving forward, Eric and Tammy were very solid in their games today and Marco, despite a loss, will advance as well with a good position for the final portion of the event.”
