Défi Sportif AlterGo National Boccia Competition Returns to Claude-Robillard Sports Complex

The Claude-Robillard Sports Complex has been a sports hub since the 1976 Montréal Olympics and will house over fifty boccia athletes in competition tomorrow

Ottawa, ON (April 24, 2025) –The 2025 Défi sportif AlterGo National Boccia Competition kicks off tomorrow at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex and runs from April 25 to 27. This event has been part of the annual Défi sportif AlterGo for over 25 years. This year marks a return to Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, where boccia was held in the early years of the event, before moving to the Maurice Richard Arena.The event will include some of the best boccia athletes across Canada with representation from British Columbia, Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The competition will include individual play only. This year also marks the first time a New Brunswick athlete will compete at the Défi sportif AlterGo National Competition which is a big step forward for the province after joining Boccia Canada just last year.

Boccia Canada is the boccia delivery arm of the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association (CCPSA), the National Sport Organization for the Paralympic sport of boccia. Boccia Canada is focused on providing athletes and individuals of all ages and skill with the chance to play a unique Paralympic sport. We lead, develop and grow boccia from grassroots to producing World Champions, and we collaborate with partners to increase participation of Canadians with physical disabilities in sport.


About boccia

Boccia is a Paralympic sport of precision and strategy similar to lawn bowling or curling, played by athletes with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy and related disabilities. It is one of only two Paralympic sports that do not have an Olympic counterpart. Athletes compete in one of six sport classes based on their level and type of disability: BC1, BC2, BC3 BC4, BC5, and Open.
