Individual Play Kicks off on Day Two of 2016 Canadian Boccia Championships

Surrey, BC (March 13, 2016) – Individual play kicked off at the second day of the 2016 Canadian Boccia Championships in Surrey, BC. Tensions were high as boccia players from east to west took to the court, some bringing with them Paralympic experience, other fresh to the sport and looking to gain recognition on the national stage. All, certainly, taking their sharpest aim to best represent their respective province.

Exceptionally strong performances were had from Hanif Mawji and Keven Smith-Worthylake in the BC1 pools, Tammy McLeod and Adam Dukovich in the BC2 pools, Eric Bussiere and Philippe Lorde in the BC3 pools, and Marco Dispaltro and Iulian Ciobanu within the BC4 pool.

Tomorrow, the athletes will go face to face again in the hopes of taking home the coveted gold medal.

BC4 British Colombian Caroline Vietnieks quips, “I had a solid day, a good start to the competition with a win of 10 – 0. The real challenge starts tomorrow, I have three matches but I’m confident and definitely looking forward to another strong performance”.

Meanwhile, BC2 Ontario native, Adam Dukovich says “individual play is going well – I’m looking to play hard and keep it up”.

Watching from the sidelines, National Team coach Cesar Nicolai says, “individual competition marked some impressive plays, the athletes are certainly shining.”
