Ottawa, ON (January 13, 2022) – Following the 2021 Canadian Boccia Championships in Quebec City this past November, boccia athletes from across the country voted who will be their voice and represent them on Boccia Canada’s Athletes’ Council.

The Athletes’ Council mandate is to bring the boccia athlete voice and perspective to Boccia Canada. The Athletes’ Council also helps inform athletes about important matters within the Association and allows for athletes to provide input on such matters.
In addition, the Boccia Canada Athletes’ Council:- Provides guidance and recommendations to Boccia Canada including consideration of current or contemplated policies, programs, decisions, or other matters that are relevant;
- Creates a strong foundation that promotes, advocates and supports open and transparent two-way communication between Boccia Canada and all Canadian boccia athletes;
- Advocates to ensure all athletes’ rights are respected and protected in relation to Boccia Canada and the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association mandate and organizational planning.
Boccia athletes across Canada are encouraged to reach out to any members of the Council for ideas, suggestions or concerns regarding boccia in Canada.
About Boccia Canada
Boccia Canada is the boccia delivery arm of the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association (CCPSA), the National Sport Organization for the Paralympic sport of boccia. Boccia Canada is focused on providing athletes and individuals of all ages and skill with the chance to play a unique Paralympic sport. CCPSA collaborates with partners to increase the participation of Canadians with cerebral palsy and related disabilities in sport and physical activity, while leading, developing and growing boccia from grassroots, to producing World and Paralympic Champions.
About boccia
Boccia is a Paralympic sport of precision and strategy similar to lawn bowling or curling, played by athletes with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy and related disabilities. It is one of only two Paralympic sports that do not have an Olympic counterpart. Athletes compete in one of six sport classes based on their level and type of disability: BC1, BC2, BC3 BC4, BC5, and Open.
