Ottawa, ON (June 14, 2025) The Canadian boccia team battled hard in the Mixed BC1/BC2 team event against the world’s top teams at the Beijing 2025 World Boccia Cup.
The trio of Danik Allard (Bois-Des-Fillon, QC), Krystin Collins (St. John’s, NL) and Lance Cryderman (Val Caron, ON) entered the competition ranked 12th in the world and competed against Hong Kong, Brazil and host China. All three featured a Paralympic medalist.
Despite finishing without a win in team play, the athletes gained vital experience as they continue to prepare for October’s Americas Regional Championship in Colombia and next year’s World Championship in South Korea.
“It’s really valuable for the athletes to play in tournaments like this,” said coach Simon Larouche. “The objective is to be in Seoul next year and this tournament was the perfect opportunity to play high-level matches and learn how to manage the effects of travelling so far on their bodies and energy.”
For Danik Allard, it was an excellent opportunity for him and his teammates to challenge themselves.
“Coming to China I knew it was going to be a challenge for me, but it’s always an honour to represent Canada and compete against these experienced players,” said Allard. “I’m convinced I’ll be able to redeem myself and train hard to be ready for Colombia.”
The tournament was also a challenging yet rewarding experience for Collins. She’s coming home with more confidence and new skills to work on.
“I now have a greater understanding of the calmness in mind and body that has to be part of my tool box to have good execution at this level.”
